The Signs it's Time to Replace Your Kia Timing Belt

  • Engine misfires and other problems
  • Oil leaks
  • Ticking sounds coming from under the hood
  • Smoky, fumy exhaust

You might see them if it's been 100,000 km or so since you last inspected the timing belt. If you do, you'll need to change it. Don't let it go too long, either, or it'll fail; then, you'll end up with timing misalignment, loss of engine power, and eventually, engine failure. These can cause serious damage to the valves, cylinder head, and pistons.

What Timing Belt Replacement Costs on Average

The worst-case scenario happens, and repairs can be expensive. Luckily, replacing a timing belt alone can be a lot cheaper -- usually, $545 to $680 CAD to start with, though sometimes up to $1,360 CAD, and sometimes more. It depends, on the one hand, on the belt (rubber or, in the case of an older Kia model, a timing chain), and on the other, it depends on labor -- what a Kia service centre is charging.

Luckily, if you know how to replace one yourself, you can save some money. You've come to the right place for a new timing belt, too; ours are OEM-quality and steeply marked down. All you'll need to put one in, in most cases, is a wrench, a socket wrench, a few gaskets, and some gasket adhesive (a kit should have any other extras you might need). The job can be complicated sometimes; be sure to consult your owner's manual, plus an engine repair manual, before starting work.
